Steve Wilhite, creator of the GIF, pronounces it /dʒɪf/ with a soft "g" as in giraffe. Incorrectly, in my opinion.

The correct way to pronounce “gif” is not at all, it is a purely computer word that has no right to live in our mouths and ears; it should just exist silently on our screens.
