I remember @masnick.com saying revenue would be v unlikely to come from ads, but as a former Twitter power user and someone who was deeply interested in how to improve Twitter the product and Twitter the business, I really don’t understand what other scalable, durable monetization options there are

There isn’t a lot of direct commerce that happens on social interest graphs. Maybe the most on FB / Insta and afaik they still generate most of their revenue from ads

And a lot of ppl are quick to make a blanket association between ads and corp greed / lack of ethics…

But I think ads, when done right, make the internet accessible and equitable

I’d love to see bsky consider ads, while also trying to push through broader reforms to how ads work, to add more transparency and controls cc @catthekin.checkmyads.org @checkmyads.org
