they aren't selling products to consumers anymore. stakeholders don't give a shit about framerates or resolutions, so they do this shit because they can more easily lie to investors that Gamers™ will be excited about it.
This is a great reference/discourse to bring up. It's still extremely relevant in its own way bc these are most definitely the same people who cried about games back then & want to use AI on games now to continue this endless pandering of unrealistic expectations on how art should be. Foul.
