So most likely the Tories would’ve swung back to the right sooner, quite possibly keeping them out for even longer. They might even have split, with the UKIP types heading over to Farage. Certainly Brexit wouldn’t have happened

Cameron , for me, will always be defined by his failure to call the europhobics’ bluff (unlike Major), which led to the referendum, and then buggering off leaving “Brexit” to be defined by the headbangers

May likewise was haunted by the idea that conservative “unity” took priority over the country
